One-to-one
My studies, training and professional experience in psychology, psychotherapy and counselling have afforded me a grounded theoretical framework, integrating the latest discoveries in neuroscience and bio-psychology with insights coming from relational psychoanalysis, psychodynamic psychotherapy, Internal Family System theory, as well as trauma-informed, body and art therapy.
From the foundations of attachment theory and of an in-depth understanding of normative child development, my integrative therapeutic approach is focused on fostering my clients’ unique endowment of cognitive, emotional and creative capacities whose spontaneous emergence may have been hindered when basic emotional needs have not been met by environmental provisions. Through the building and ethical use of a confidential, empathic, and boundaried therapeutic relationship, my work strives to create a secure space where my clients' experience may be heard, rather than pathologised, facilitating each individual’s self-actualisation potential to arise.
I believe the goal of a healthy therapeutic alliance to lie in empowering the individual on his or her own pathway to well-being, becoming authors, rather than victims, of their history.
I believe that an understanding of the profoundly relational nature of the human personality calls us therapists to our ethical responsibility to strive for an authentic and always-new involvement with every client we chose to work with. Only from a foundation of authenticity, in fact, the therapeutic relationship may pose itself as a secure base to work-through past failures in meeting the person’s needs and create a new relational experience which, once internalised, may offer clients a starting point to pursue and create, in their lives, conditions which may nourish and respect rather than impoverish their personal identities.
Clinical experience and research teach us how the breaking of intergenerational maladaptive coping patterns affecting well-being and functioning may only take place through the experience of an emotional field which is both attuned and contained; one where empathy is balanced by respect and which safeguards those boundaries, embodied in the therapeutic frame, of freedom, self-determination and irreducibility of the subjective self.
It is my profound conviction that coherence, honesty, transparency, competence and clarity in the definition of one's role as a therapist together with a code of ethic which centres on respect for human dignity and freedom, and on the active rejection of any sort of discrimination and prejudice, are the preliminary conditions for any intervention aiming to be therapeutic.
I profoundly believe in this profession, which I have practiced, as a trainee and then as qualified psychotherapist and counsellor, with passion and commitment, since June 2011, within organisations and in private practice.
